Marina and the Diamonds
Magazine Advert
Makeup&Hair
I chose to analyse this Magazine advert because it relates to a possible idea that i would like for my own magazine advert, the advert features a huge image of Marina Diamandis the singer from Marina and the Diamonds. As her face is the main image and there is no costume scene her hair and make up are of most importance, her make up isn't too extreme but there is fine detail put into her eye makeup to make them pop out more. Her hair is down and rested around above her head and neck as she appears to be posing lying down her hair isn't styled.
Positioning
The positioning of Marina is vital because her head takes up the whole of the magazine advert, and is the first thing that the audience see. The whole Advert is an image anyway with the information about the album placed over the top, it is also a portrait advert so it would take up a whole page and stand out more.
Eye Contact&Body Language
This is an important part for this type of magazine advert because as the image is just of her head, eye contact should be the most important thing. Marina is looking directly at the camera as to try and draw in the audience and although you cant see her body she still manages to give off a seductive vibe towards the audience. This image is also used as her album cover for 'The Family Jewels' so people will recognise the image easily.
Shot Type
This shot is a Closeup of Marina, focusing just on her face and features, this image would be recognised because you are able to see the whole of her face and as it is used for the album cover aswell, audiences will immediatly be able to recognise who it is.
Font Type
The font that is noticible straight away of course is the main title, reading the artist's name and the name of the album, the title is in big bold letters written in special writing style that Marina and the Diamonds use in all of their album covers, this is so that people will recognise not only the artist but the writing as it is known for being related to that particular artist. One thing that i like most about this video is that the title and the name of the album is shaped across her face, and the writing pops out more because of the greyish patterned background making the audience see it straight away or from afar. Another thing that is advertised on this magazine advert is the single cover for her next single which is also on the album 'The Family Jewels' but is also available to download or buy as just a single. These are all in a smaller writing because they are not as important as the artist's name and the album title, but still manages to stand out, especially because there is also an image of the new single 'shapain' included in the advert just shrunken down so it doesnt take away all the attention from the album advert.
Layout
The layout for this magazine advert is different to others because the whole advert is just an image, but it includes all the things that a magazine advert would have. Although this one is a bit different because it includes another mini advert for a single release that is also included on the album, this is good because not only is she advertising her album she is advertising her other material that is available to her fans and any other audience. It is still attracting to the audience, because her face is the main image and the first thing that is seen on the page.
